BARC Week 5: English news segment saw 791% spike on February 1
The announcement of Union Budget on February 1 boosted ratings multi-fold across Hindi and English business and news channels
Hindi and English business and news channels had a field day on February 1 during the announcement of Union Budget. According to the numbers released by BARC, the viewership of the four genres amplified with the entire nation tuning into the channels at 11 a.m. to know about the fiscal scenario. The English news segment shot up by 791 per cent led by CNBC TV18 with 252 impressions (000s) followed by ET Now with 85 impressions (000s.) Overall the genre fetched 352 impressions (000s) as against 40 impressions (000s) on January 25 in the same time frame. The TG was All India, Male 22+AB.
The Hindi business news channels, on the other hand, saw a 192 per cent growth for the same time frame. Collectively the genre garnered 174 impressions (000s) compared to 60 impressions (000s) on January 25 between 11 a.m. to 1p.m. CNBC Awaaz led this progress with 156 impressions (000s,) three times the previous week. Taking the second spot, Zee Business brought in just 18 impressions (000s.) The TG over here is Hindi Speaking Market, 15+.
Meanwhile there was a 121 per cent growth in English news segment (on the same day,) summing up to 68.04 impressions (000s) compared to 30.76 impressions (000s) the previous week. Republic TV topped the category with 25.07 impressions (000s) followed by Times Now with 15.94 impressions (000s.) Previous week Republic TV took the third spot fetching 6.46 impressions (000s.) Interestingly CNN News 18 which topped the category on January 25 slipped to fourth spot with 8.45 impressions (000s). It was closely succeeded by India Today TV with 8.90 impressions (000s). NDTV 24X7 did not make it to the top 5 channels. The TG here was All India, Male 22+AB.
Hindi New Genre which fetched the maximum viewership of 11,315 impressions (000s) saw a 52 per cent hike from 7446 impressions (000s.) This was led by the undisputed leader Aaj Tak with 1,975 impressions (000s) as against 1352 impressions (000s) the previous week. It was closely followed by ABP News whose viewership doubled to 1892.7 impressions (000s) from previous week's 923 impressions (000s.) Next came India TV whose ratings also increased two fold to 1815 impressions (000s). The TG is Hindi Speaking Market 15+.
Meanwhile DD News' ratings increased by 582 per cent to 289 impressions (000s) from 42 impressions (000s.)
