ABP News, Aaj Tak strike a chord with the viewers on counting day

With elections over and the nation giving a firm mandate by choosing Narendra Modi and the BJP, now’s the time for channels to do a reality check on how they performed during the election period.
Given the intense viewer interest on the day of the verdict, May 16, the viewership numbers have been eagerly awaited. TAM has released the data, which show how different news channels have scored on the viewership scale.
In what was the most keenly followed Election, the Hindi News genre attained the highest ever absolute reach of over 104 million, with an absolute share of 6.8 per cent viewership.
As per data sourced from TAM subscribers for CS 15+, All India, Aaj Tak was the No. 1 Hindi news channel on counting day – May 16. The channel recorded a share of 22 per cent and was viewed by over 6 crore people. ABP News had a share of 21 per cent.
Aaj Tak garnered 526,676 GVTs during Election week, translating into a market share of 21 per cent (20.7 per cent) within Hindi news channels (All India, CS 15+, Avrg TVT 000s).
Meanwhile, as per data sourced from TAM subscribers for CS 15 + ABC HSM, ABP News led with a market share of 21 per cent for the entire counting day coverage. Aaj Tak was close behind with a market share of 20 per cent, while India TV had a market share of 17 per cent. ABP News got a channel share of 4.89 per cent.
Amongst news networks, MCCS – ABP News, ABP Majha and ABP Ananda – was the most watched group.
