HT Media’s subsidiaries have decided to shut down two of their FM radio services in Chennai and have formally applied to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) to return the licenses.
The board of HT Music and Entertainment Company Limited (HTME) approved the decision on 25 November 2025 to relinquish the license for Fever FM (91.9 MHz). The station will cease operations from 24 December 2025.
Earlier, another subsidiary, Next Radio Limited, had already surrendered the license for its 94.3 FM station in Chennai, which was discontinued from 24 October 2025.
HT Media stated that the radio stations were no longer financially or strategically viable. In a filing with SEBI, the company said both licenses were voluntarily surrendered even though they were originally valid until 31 March 2030.
The contribution of these stations to HT Media’s total revenue was minimal: 94.3 FM contributed ₹2.17 crore (0.12% of total revenue) and 91.9 FM contributed ₹4.58 crore (0.25%). The company added that shutting down these stations would have no significant impact on overall business performance.
