Veteran journalist and author Mark Tully, widely regarded as a chronicler of India, passed away at a hospital in Delhi on Sunday. He was 90.

Tully had been unwell for some time and was hospitalised for about a week ago, as per media reports.

He was with BBC till 1994.

“Mark passed away at Max Hospital Saket this afternoon,” Satish Jacob, veteran journalist and a close friend of Tully, told PTI, a news report said.

Tully was best known for his long association with the BBC and for his writings on India’s social, political and cultural life. His work had earned him wide recognition both in India and internationally.

Tully was honoured with Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1985, the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
