National Readership Survey (NRS) 2006, the readership study covering 274,200 respondents has been completed and the findings of the same will be released to members of the press, advertisers, and ad agencies on August 29, 2006 in a conference organised in Mumbai.

The universe for the Survey was 12-years plus adults in urban and rural India. The study was conducted for the whole of India, except Jammu and Kashmir and offshore territories, that is, Lakshawadeep, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. In the North-East, the study was restricted to Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim.

All town classes and village classes in each and every district have been covered, all towns with a population of more than one lakh have been covered, supplement readership has been extended to 42 top cities for NRS 2006 from the top eight metros in NRS 2005.

The National Readership Studies Council (NRSC) officials also informed that topics of interest to readers, which might indicate the probable page traffic and additional clues on lifestyle for profiling of readers, would be covered as would be time spent on reading for each publication, source of publication read, publications discontinued for reading and publications read other than those fielded.

There would also be details on psychographic profiling parameters, quality checks by external audit firm Ernst & Young. As was the case, last year, in order to ensure accountability, a single research agency, AC Nielsen ORG-MARG, has been appointed by NRSC to undertake this study.
