As Rajeev Beotra celebrates his birthday today, we reflect on a remarkable journey, one that traverses industries, reshapes strategies and leaves behind a quiet yet enduring legacy in the ever-evolving world of media.
A name that commands respect across India’s advertising and publishing circuits, Beotra’s career has been a masterclass in how to build value, steadily, thoughtfully, and with rare grace. From his early beginnings in consumer goods with brands like Coca-Cola, Whirlpool and Asian Paints, Beotra learned the essentials of brand building, customer insight, and market orchestration. But it was in the ever-shifting media world where he left his most profound imprint.
His first stint at HT Media began in 2005 and lasted nearly a decade. He held key leadership roles, notably as National Head of Revenue and Circulation. At a time when print was facing increasing pressure from digital disruption, Beotra was one of the few who didn’t panic. He adapted. He analyzed. He evolved.
After a successful run at HT, he joined Star India, where he helped script a new chapter in sports broadcasting, monetizing properties like the Indian Premier League and Pro Kabaddi League, and building revenue models that were ahead of their time, especially in the burgeoning digital arena with Hotstar. It was here that he sharpened his ability to blend content, commerce, and consumer behaviour into one seamless strategy.
In 2016, he returned to HT Media for a second innings, eventually rising to the position of Executive Director - Revenue. His mandate was vast, overseeing advertising, circulation, distribution and critically, steering the company’s transition from traditional print revenues to a more robust, future-ready digital model. His leadership helped HT weather multiple industry storms, finding equilibrium between legacy and innovation.
His tenure at HT Media across both stints adds up to nearly ten years, a rare feat in an industry known for churn. But what made his journey truly singular was the absence of noise. Beotra has never been one for headlines or boardroom theatrics. His style is precise, composed, almost monk-like in its focus. While others chased scale at any cost, he focused on building resilient systems, revenue structures that were both profitable and purposeful.
To celebrate Rajeev Beotra is to celebrate a different kind of leadership. One that doesn’t seek the spotlight, but shapes it. One that listens more than it speaks, but always speaks with weight. One that understands that in the end, real impact is not measured by volume but by value.
