Showtime Events nominated for Gala Awards 2012

Special Events, the oldest and most prestigious award in the events industry announced the nominees for the 2012 Gala Awards on November 22. Showtime Events has been nominated for the ‘Best event for private individual: Budget $1,000 and above per guest’ and ‘Best multiple-day event program category’.

Speaking to exchange4media Michael Menezes, Managing Director, Showtime Events, stated, “I am indeed delighted that we are now being constantly recognized on the world stage. But I am not completely surprised because Showtime has continuously set standards for the industry in concept, technology, quality and innovation over the last 15 years and recognition has actually come late. However, I believe the ultimate compliment goes to our clients who have always believed in us and continually given us opportunities to create world-class experiences for them and also to our people who have a passion that is truly remarkable and indeed outstanding.”

The nomination is for two events – ‘BMW Xperience’ and ‘Celebrating a Personal Milestone’

BMW Xperience

A first-of- its-kind event for global auto major BMW was executed by Showtime Events last year. The event consisted of two broad aspects – one was to create a 10-obstacle track for the test drive that showcased each of the BMW XDrive’s features and on-road capabilities. Second was the X3 launch event which took place in a hangar, specially created within a 60-ft deep site. It was organised in an off-beat location to make people sit up and take notice. The experience was recreated for the media for a period of 8 days. The overall budget for organising the event was around Rs 2.5 crore.

The objective behind the event was to demonstrate the brand’s market leadership through engagement, taking the experiential marketing route, to showcase its launch of rugged SUV X3. This was a huge succes for Showtime, as they bagged Gold at the Haas and Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards in the ‘Best New Event’ category.

Celebrating a personal milestone

Showtime organised a grand affair to celebrate the 80th year of the head of India’s largest real estate development conglomerate. Over 500 of the who’s who from across the globe gathered at Udaipur for the celebration in November last year.

Showtime, along with international floating operatic specialists Studio Festi, created a lake experience that integrated life-size swans, dancing balletists on floating pianos, aerial balloonists that skimmed the water surfaces, zorbs (girls in balloons) and topped it up with Rajasthani Nagada drummers and dancers to blow peoples’ minds away even before they reached the venue. The venue itself was transformed from a regular wedding venue to a lake experience feel.

The other nominees to these categories include international event agencies such as Extraordinary Events, Sherman Oaks, California; Vok Dams Agency, Wuppertal, Germany; Walton Event Design, Charlotte, North Carolina; and 5th Element Events, Markham, Ontario.

Commenting on the award wins, Menezes further added, “Showtime is a winning force because we are passionate about innovation, thus creating world-class experiences for our client partners. We have won over thirty industry awards.”

The winners for the Gala Award 2012 will be announced on January 18 at The Special Event 2013 in Chicago.
