Veteran Hindi political journalist, editor and author Dwijendra Tiwari has been appointed Executive Editor of Hamara Mahanagar, a leading Hindi daily published in Maharashtra, reports Samachar4media.
Tiwari brings more than three decades of experience in journalism. His journalism career began with freelance science writing for Aaj and Avkash magazine in Varanasi. He later moved to Mumbai, where he began with Madhuri magazine of the Times Group and the popular Bollywood magazine Film City. He subsequently worked briefly with the Mumbai bureau of Lokmat Samachar of the Lokmat Group, Nagpur.
In March 1989, Tiwari joined the Mumbai editions of Jansatta and Sanjha Jansatta of the Indian Express Group. During his initial years, he reported on films, organised crime, political corruption and civic issues. From 1992 to 2000, he served as Chief Correspondent.
From June 2000 to June 2005, Tiwari served as Editor-in-Charge of the Mumbai edition of Navbharat, where he extensively covered Maharashtra's political landscape.
In July 2005, he played a key role in the acquisition of the Hindi daily Hamara Mahanagar, owned by veteran Marathi journalist Nikhil Wagle. He subsequently served as Editor of the publication in Mumbai until August 2013.
In September 2013, Tiwari played a key role in launching the Mumbai and Bhopal editions of Absolute India, an English and Hindi daily, and served as its Editor until June 2020. During the six years following the Covid-19 pandemic, he worked on fiction writing, freelance columns, website operations and political consultancy, among other journalistic assignments.
Tiwari has now returned to the Hamara Mahanagar group, which publishes editions from Mumbai, Pune and Nashik, as Executive Editor.
During his career, Tiwari has interviewed several prominent personalities, including the late Balasaheb Thackeray and Amitabh Bachchan. He has also written political columns for Hindustan in New Delhi, Dopahar Ka Saamana in Mumbai and several other leading national and regional newspapers.
