All India Distillers’ Association (AIDA) has appointed Bharati Balaji as its Deputy Director General.
Balaji brings more than 25 years of experience spanning legal practice, corporate roles, and policy advocacy within industry bodies. She began her career practising law at the Supreme Court of India, where she spent nearly five years before moving into the corporate sector.
Prior to joining AIDA, Balaji was associated with the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), where she joined in 2012 as Deputy Head. During her tenure, she played a key role in the registration and operationalisation of ISMA’s bio-energy arm, the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association, and later rose to the position of Director.
In that role, she handled policy formulation, strategic initiatives, as well as legal and compliance matters. She also served as acting head of ISMA for three months during a leadership transition.
Earlier in her career, Balaji worked with The Times of India Group as Manager–Legal, where she oversaw a range of legal and contractual matters over a five-year period. She later joined Microsoft, leading the Contract Sourcing and Negotiation team and gaining international exposure in corporate governance and team management.
In her new role at AIDA, Balaji is expected to support the association’s policy engagement and industry coordination efforts, particularly as the distillery sector plays an increasingly significant role in India’s biofuel ecosystem.
