After having incubated Seychelles India Day in 2013, Alchemist successfully executed the 4th annual event of the country during 14th-16th October.
Seychelles India Day Committee, a collaboration of the Seychelles government and the Seychelles Tourism Board, engaged Alchemist as a strategist agency to design and execute the 2-day celebrations.
Graced by top Indian talent from Indian cinema, performing arts and culinary world, the 4th year event was a landmark in itself. Seychelles India Day was conceptualized to celebrate and strengthen bi-lateral ties between India and Seychelles through experiences around food, music, culture of both countries. This occasion is now celebrated over the weekend after Gandhi Jayanti every year, and is now established by the Seychelles government as an official public holiday.
Alchemist was the curator and incubator of the original event back in 2013 on the direction of the Seychelles Tourism Board, contributing as far as to define the date for the celebrations every year.
This year, the celebrations opened with an Inauguration Ceremony that was jeweled by Indian and Seychellois performers. 72/35 Southern Street, a unique Carnatic group band flavored the perfect opening with their ensemble of melodic & rhythmic features from music across the world. The night was a landmark for Seychelles as they announced the installation of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the main business district of the country.
Two of India’s new age dance groups floored the audience with their angelic performances in true Indian spirit. For the Telugu and Tamil Indians in Seychelles, directly from Chennai, Raack Dance Academy was invited for a vibrant performance.. On the other hand, the powerhouse of aesthetic visuals coupled with intense expression of emotions, the Anveshna Dance Group enthralled the audience with an electrifying performance on Bollywood numbers.
On Day 2, model, singer, dancer, TV host, anchor, actress, Shibani Dandekar hosted the evening. She even surprised the audience with her smoldering, impromptu singing performance.
The trailblazer of the Indian contingent was the playback voice of the 3 leading Khans of Bollywood, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan Udit Narayan. Not only did his presence but his performance of true blue Bollywood and South Indian numbers left the audience grooving for over 90 mins.
Only as the audience thought that was the end of the evening, another Indian music sensation and icon was ready to take the stage. Seychelles marked history that day by hosting two of India’s legendary music figures on the same stage, same day. Touted as the liveliest voice in Bollywood, the most versatile singer India has produced, Sunidhi Chauhan headlined the event with her ever rocking performance. Sunidhi kept her 4000+ fans on their toes for two hours with her top numbers through a visually stunning performance.
The Gala Lunch on the last day was a true grand finale to the celebrations. A lunch attended by the who’s who of Seychelles was curated and prepared by Chef Karan Mehta from the Le Meridien New Delhi Hotel, aided by a team of Indian and Seychellois.
Speaking about the success of this event Ramu Pillay, President of the Indian Society of Seychelles, shared, “Seychelles India Day till now was another step towards developing a deeper relationship between the two nations. But after its 4th edition it has now become a national event for us. It will feature in the national calendar from next year on. We are so glad we hired Alchemist to create and execute the event and manage this crucial initiative. Right from conceptualizing the celebration to successfully executing it, Alchemist worked with us like our own team. We are proud and happy to have hosted such talented and popular Indian artists this year and look forward to welcoming more such artists to our country next year.”
Manish Porwal, MD of Alchemist added, “This is a mega celebration of the social harmony and multi-faceted synergy between the two countries and Alchemist is proud to again have been a part of this prestigious initiative. Keeping in mind the taste in art of the Indian diaspora and the local community, the artists were carefully chosen to provide unforgettable experiences to both communities. The performances were customized and all the artists gave their best performances which made the event the most successful Seychelles-India Day so far .”
In the past, many well known Indian artists like A.R Rehman, Benny Dayal, R Madhavan, Terence Lewis etc have travelled to Seychelles as state guests and performed for the enraptured locals.
