News channels deliver bumper reach on Counting Day
Hindi news channels attained all time high with 62 crore impressions on May 23

The 7th Lok Sabha elections have been good news for news channels. While the whole of seven phases were eventful for news channels, the viewership peaked on counting day. According to data released by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India on May 23 Hindi news channels attained the all time high with 62 crore Impressions.
Hindi News channels were viewed by 27.9 crore people over the week (Week 21) which is an increase of 30 per cent against the average of the previous 4 weeks (P4WA). On the other hand English news channels were viewed by 1.4crore people over the same week which also records an increase of 60 per cent against the average of previous four weeks.
In the Hindi speaking market in the 15+category, Aaj Tak touched 14.61 crore Impressions on counting day and ABP News clocked 11.48 crore Impressions. India TV touched 6. 4 crore Impressions and Republic Bharat went on to touch 6.04 crore Impressions. News18 India touched 6.01 crore impressions and ZeeTV stood at 4.89 crore.
On the other hand, Republic TV touched 5.51 lakh Impressions in ABM22+ category while Times Now touched 3.7 lakh Impressions in the same category. Then there was CNN News 18 that clocked 3.24 lakh Impressions. India Today Television touched 3.18lakh Impressions. NCCS (New Consumer Classification System) AB, Males, 22+ years is the demographic for English news.
Talking about counting day traffic Vikas Khanchandani, CEO, Republic TV said, “Both the Hindi and English News genre grew by more than 100% in the week driven by the massive contribution by counting Day.
