India’s digital space is brimming with fresh content as new shows are being released every other day. In what could be termed as a precursor to the festive season, which starts today, September especially has seen the launch of interesting web-series exploring different genres. They feature well known names from both the silver and small screen and are being presented in new, exciting formats. We list a few shows:
Claiming to be India’s first social media thriller from Viu, starring popular Telugu actor Rana Daggubati and Naveen Kasturia of ‘Pitchers’ fame, ‘Social’ was launched on September 8. Produced by Whacked Out Media and Guru Films, the bilingual original series (in Hindi and Telugu) revolve around four individuals who come together to solve the mystery of a missing girl. The 13-episode-series with its talented cast and compelling plotline, attempts to engage millennials on the pros and cons of social media influence in their daily lives.
Going Viral Pvt Ltd
Created by stand-up comedian-playwright Anubhav Pal, the web series ‘Going Viral Pvt Ltd’ features Kunaal Roy Kapur, Kubra Sait and Prabal Punjabi. This eight-episode spoof streamed on Amazon Prime is all about a company which creates viral content for social media. It lends a humorous touch to the behind-the-scenes making of viral social media content.
Stupid Man Smart Phone
Voot’s latest nine-part series ‘Stupid Man Smart Phone’ is all about survival but with the means of a smartphone and robust network. Hosted by talented actor Sumeet Vyas, the show promises its audience a never-seen-before format in the web space. The show is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, presented by Vodafone and powered by Motorola. A winner of the ‘Best Multi-Platform Format’ at the 2017 International Format Awards in Cannes earlier, this Indian adaptation of the BBC Worldwide format features Sumeet Vyas and a celebrity guest travelling across three unforgiving terrains, trying to complete the mission at hand while being aided by their smartphones and their followers on social media.

The first season won hearts with its relatable characters and humourous tales.
