OTTs gear up for Diwali with fresh content

Both local and international OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Viu and Voot are boosting up their content strategy with a fresh line-up of shows, Korean drama and latest big Bollywood titles

October has turned out to be a significant month for Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms much like their linear counterpart, television. Most of these platforms are prepping up for the festive season with a robust line-up of exclusive shows and latest movies.





Amazon Prime Video, for instance, is all geared up for October with its local offerings like stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath’s first web series ‘Lakhon Mein Ek’ (tentatively coming on October 13) and latest Bollywood movies like ‘Daddy,’ ‘Simran,’ and ‘Tubelight.’ The regional fare will have ‘Tula Kalnar Nahi’ (Marathi) and ‘Arjun Reddy’ (Telegu). In the international offering, the global streaming service is bringing shows like ‘Supernatural Season 13,’ ‘Young Sheldon,’ its latest original ‘Lore,’ a horror anthology series and movies like ‘Don’t Breathe’ and ‘City of Ghosts.’

Vuclip’s OTT platform Viu is coming out with the second installment of thriller ‘Spotlight’ featuring popular television actors like Karan V Grover and Aditi Arya. Manasi Sapre, Senior Director- Programming & Content Acquisition, Vuclip India, shares, “We kick-start Diwali with our best offering. ‘Spotlight 2’ is the first musical in the digital space which is getting launched after Diwali in festive season. As there is a strong following for Korean content we will be launching a separate page with 30 Korean drama series this festive month. Ten will be added every month following this. We are bringing the best of Korean drama which is the new wave in India. Certain drama will be simulcast. We like to stay (little bit) ahead of the curve. Also, this is an amazing opportunity for us to own this space which is vacant.”



Voot has its hands busy with the latest season of Salman Khan-starrer ‘Bigg Boss’. For this reality show, it has planned two dailies this month with ‘Unseen Undekha’ offering uncut footage from the sets and ‘Cutless’ which gives viewers access to full elimination, tasks and nominations. Their latest show ‘Big Buzz’ scheduled every weekend, tracks the social media conversation around it apart from giving a round up. The platform is known for putting exclusive content around its properties like ‘Bigg Boss’ and ‘Splitsvilla’ which has worked out well.



Hotstar’s festive line-up has international offerings with three new shows like ‘Ghosted,’ (October 1) ‘The Gifted’ (October 2) and ‘White Famous’ (October 15). Shows that have returned with their latest seasons are ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ ‘The Last Man on Earth’ ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ and ‘Chance.’ The platform will also add the entire series of popular drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ on October 31. Regional shows include ‘Kings of Dance Season 2’ (Tamil), ‘Sujathayude Visheshangal ’(Malayalam), and ‘Dasara Vachindayya’ (Telegu) among others.



Balaji Telefilms’ ALTBalaji is bringing back the Ragini MMS franchise with a horror web show titled ‘Ragini MMS Returns,’ featuring Karishma Sharma and Siddharth Gupta. It’s scheduled to be streamed on the platform on October 19. Manav Sethi, CMO of ALTBalaji said, “We at ALTBalaji strive to create new formats and our #ALTBalajiOriginal show ‘Ragini MMS Returns’ is one such potent combination of horror and sex. Next in line up is completely different concept BOSE-Dead/Alive which should be out in November. ‘BOSE-Dead/Alive’ is based on India’s biggest cover-up around death of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.”

Sony LIV is coming out with the latest edition of its original show #LoveBytes by Vishal Mull. It builds on the master narratives and engaging storytelling of the last season. It is tentatively scheduled for October 11. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
