Mindshare & OMD win top honours at IDMA 2016; winners speak
The excellence awards winners for IDMA 2016 share their joy after winning the top honours at exchange4media's premier digital marketing awards
exchange4media’s premier property IDMA 2016, which honours the best work done in digital medium, concluded on Friday at a gala event held at St Regis, Mumbai.
As always, the Awards saw competition from across the board, with a number of agencies battling it out for top honours. Maxus had walked away last year with two of the top awards --- Best Digital Agency and Best Social Media Agency, and with a whopping 11 metals. This year, however, honours were more equally divided.
Mindshare and Interactive Avenues tied at top spot in terms of metal tally with 6 metals each. Mindshare received 1 Gold, 2 Silvers and 3 Bronzes in comparison to Interactive Avenues’ tally of 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.
This was followed by ibs (Interactive Business Solutions), Tonic Media and OMD, who each got 5 metals each. Ibs received 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze metals, while Tonic Media won 1 Gold, 3 Silver metals and 1 Bronze metal. OMD bagged 1 Gold, 2 Silver metals and 2 Bronze metals.
In all, 13 Gold metals, 23 Silver metals and 30 Bronze metals were given away at IDMA 2016 across 28 categories (including sub-categories).
Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder of One97 Communications and PayTM, was honoured as IDMA Person of the Year. The ‘Best Digital and Social Media Advertiser’ honour went to Viacom18 Media while Hindustan Unilever took the ‘Best Advertiser on Mobile’ honour.
Mindshare India was honoured with ‘Best Digital and Social Media Agency of the Year’, while ‘Best Mobile Media Agency of the Year’ went to OMD India.
We caught up with some of the winners to get their reactions.
“We are really excited to win this award, especially since mobile is a focus area for us. It has been some years since IDMA has been around and the way they have done it this year was really good. I think we should keep doing this and make it bigger every year,” said Gaurav Jeet Singh, Head of Media (South Asia) at HUL.

What we always thrive to do is to do great work for our clients and I am really happy that in this competitive environment the jury made the right choice of selecting all the good work. Congratulations to all the winners and just ensure that all your work is best in class. This is what digital advertising stands for---innovation, engagement, conversations, new media, etc. The other thing is that it is no longer about just a single media. It is getting mass and becoming more mainstream. I would like to just call out one last thing to the entire team at Mindshare; you guys are fantastic, we could not have done this without you.”
