India Digital Forum discusses digital media and social commerce

Organised by CellStrat, the forum saw eminent speakers like Annurag Batra, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, exchange4media; Vikram Tanna, Vice President, Star Digital, STAR India; and Badri Sanjeevi, COO, Mauj Mobile, among many others.
In his keynote address, Annurag Batra spoke about the digital convergence revolution. He shed light on the speed with which, in stark contrast to the number of phone users in India till a decade back, the Indian mobile is picking and is one of the fastest growing markets in the world. He assured that this is a showcase of things to come and that digital will play a pivotal role in that.
This was followed by a panel discussion on digital media takeover – media and content gone digital. The event was moderated by Nikhil Pahwa, editor and publisher, Medianama. Anuraj Ghambir, a technology evangelist, spoke about the convergence that is happening in the mobile industry. “By 2014, 66 per cent mobile traffic will be video and youth will be driving it. Tablets and their introduction will be a defining factor,” he stated.
Kall Ramanathan, Executive Vice President and Country Head for Port Indigo, presented some interesting facts for the audience. He said that by 2012, India would be home to the second largest number of users of Facebook and among top five for Google+ users.
By 2015, 8 per cent of the total ecommerce will be on mobile phones, he added. “In the light of these and many such derivatives, 38 per cent marketers are planning to increase their digital media budget,” he stated.
Vikram Tanna recalled that TV is still the cheapest form of entertainment. But the medium has evolved immensely of the years and now is witnessing the era of smart TVs. “can we use digital engagement with the consumers to define our marketing strategy? That should be the way forward,” he concluded.
Atul Satija, VP and MD, APAC, InMobi, then gave a keynote address on immersive advertising and media innovation. He pointed out that the number of smart phones is growing and we want to do a lot more with our phones than just talk. “Mobile advertising must have a deep immersive experience for us,” he said. He also stated that for such an experience to be created, the industry needs a new breed of creative teams who can build creative ads.
