Hathway halves Broadband Internet rates

Hathway Cable & Datacom has slashed its broadband Internet access rates by more than 50 per cent to Rs 300 a month, a move aimed at lowering the entry price to attract mass subscribers. The Internet access speed has also been increased from 64 kbps to 128 kbps while the download limit under this scheme has been brought down from 300 MB to 100 MB.

Hathway Cable & Datacom has slashed its broadband Internet access rates by more than 50 per cent to Rs 300 a month, a move aimed at lowering the entry price to attract mass subscribers.

The Internet access speed has also been increased from 64 kbps to 128 kbps while the download limit under this scheme has been brought down from 300 MB to 100 MB. Hathway’s entry price earlier was Rs 650 per month with a speed of 64 kbps. Though access was also available at Rs 500 a month, it was only for the ‘night plan’ from 8 pm to 8 am.

“We were not able to address the segment which was looking mainly at e-mail and lower usage. Our intention is to make products available for all price segments,” said Rajeev Pareek, who heads Internet sales at Hathway Cable & Datacom.

It has also increased the speed and download limit for subscribers who pay Rs 1,000 a month. While the download limit has been increased from 500 MB to 750 MB, subscribers will get access at 128 kbps, up from 64 kbps.

“For this price segment, we are offering faster speed and higher download limit. The aim is to provide better value to these customers,” said Mr Pareek.

The price of cable modems has also dropped. In fact, the slash in price of cable modems has been progressive. The price fell from Rs 6,750 to Rs 4,995. This further dropped to Rs 3,995. Now the cable modems to Hathway subscribers are available at Rs 3,333—a price aimed at making entry cost to cable Internet subscribers more affordable.
