India has got its first ever shortlist in the coveted Titanium & Integrated Lions. The campaign that would be competing with the best of the best work done in the year is JWT’s Lead India for The Times of India. India had entered five entries in all this year in this category. The winners would be announced on June 21, 2008.

DishTV India Ltd has reported a net loss of Rs 1.15 billion for the quarter ended March 31, 2008, compared to a net loss of Rs 1 billion in the year ago period. The DTH player’s fourth quarter gross revenues were at Rs 1,364 million, representing a 21 per cent growth over the third quarter revenues this fiscal.

He fills the slot left vacant following the transfer of former I&B Secretary Asha Swarup to Himachal Pradesh as Chief Secretary. Chawla is an IAS officer of the 1973 batch.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2008 announced the Films Lions shortlist on June 19. After the high that India has been on, Films Lions has been a disappointing category. There are only three entries shortlisted from India, and all are from Ogilvy & Mather.

Salil Kapoor is coming on board DishTV as Chief Operating Officer from the first week of July. He will be reporting to Jawahar Goel, MD, DishTV. Kapoor’s last stint was with Samsung India Electronics as Head of Home Appliances for nine months. Industry sources have confirmed the development.

Ekta Kapoor has done it again – brought it the ‘K’ factor in a timeless epic like the Mahabharat. ‘Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki’ is premiering on 9X on July 7. The mythological serial will air Monday to Thursday in the prime time slot of 9 pm. The extra vowels notwithstanding, 9X has great hopes from the new show.

Amar Ujala is expanding its footprint in the Hindi heartland. The Hindi daily is launching its Lucknow edition on June 24. This edition would also cover eight other districts of Uttar Pradesh – Rai Bareli, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gonda, Sitapur, Barabanki, Bahraich, Faizabad and Sultanpur. The paper would be priced at Rs 3.50.

Vincent Bolloré created quite a stir in the media and advertising industry in 2005 when he took over Havas Group. His interest in Aegis following that and the recent speculations on his conversations with the IPG group further has raised a eyebrows on how this French ‘corporate raider’ would challenge the international advertising dynamics as the world knows it. Bolloré, for now, is happy with the way Havas has grown and clarified his stand on speculations.

On June 19, advertising industry thought leaders took the discussion back to the basics and how while it was the idea at heart, the game was still about storytelling.
