The merger between J Walter Thompson and Wunderman will now take effect in India, with the new entity being named Wunderman Thompson India, according to news reports.

Tarun Rai, Chairman & Group CEO, Wunderman Thompson (South Asia) will be leading the transition, while erstwhile head of Wunderman India, Manoj Mansukhani has been appointed as Chief Transformation Officer. Rai was already tasked with creating more synchronised operations between the JWT Group and its network of companies, which include Mirum, Contract Advertising, Hungama Digital Services, Geometry Global Encompass Network, and ADK Fortune. However, according to reports, while coming under the Wunder Thompson Group umbrella, these group agencies would remain independent.

Due to the fast-paced change and emergence of digital disruption in the advertising industry, companies are increasingly opting for consolidation. The merger also aims to help Wunderman Thompson attract talent, which is otherwise seen to be moving towards pure-play digital agencies.
