There has been immense speculation on the agencies that will be participating, keeping in the mind the sabbatical that took place post the announcement of awards last year, which included accusations of plagiarism on awarded work, scam ads, the appointment of a super jury resulting in several unhappy adlanders and agencies.
McCann Erickson has confirmed that the agency will not be sending entries to Goafest this year. “We will not be sending entries we have decided to give it a skip this year,” said Prasoon Joshi, Executive Chairman and CEO, McCann Worldgroup India and President, South Asia.
However, the agency will participate at Goafest and send delegates to the festival. “It is an industry event and we will support it,” Joshi added.
McCann Erickson joins the ranks of Leo Burnett, Lowe Lintas (the agency has skipped Goafest for many years now) and Ogilvy (for the first time in the history of the Abbys, Ogilvy was conspicuous with its absence last year).
The Awards Governing Council of Goafest had further extended the dates for submission of entries for the 2014 edition of Goafest Abbys till April 24.
Scheduled to be held on May 29-31, Goafest will be hosted at The Grand Hyatt, this year. Two new categories – Promo-Activation and PR – have been included, along with Broadcaster and Publisher Abbys, this year.
