BMC projects ₹362 Cr revenue from advertising in FY 2025-26  

The civic body has reported a 49% increase in revenue from advertising and hoarding fees in 2023-24

BMC has announced that the licence department's revenue is projected to rise to Rs 362 crore as part of the budget presentation for FY 2025-26, the corporation revealed for FY 2025-26. 

Additionally, BMC has reported a significant increase in revenue from advertising and hoarding fees, collecting ₹234.78 crore in 2024-25 - a 48.74% surge from ₹157.85 crore in 2023-24. This growth was primarily driven by the License Department, a key contributor to the civic body's earnings.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Civic Chief Bhushan Gagrani also said that a new advertisement policy will soon be introduced, aimed at reducing visual clutter in Mumbai. 

The estimated revenue from the License Department for 2024-25 was initially set at ₹324.49 crore but was later revised to ₹260 crore, reflecting a shortfall of ₹64.49 crore or 19.87%, as per reports.

Revenue sources

BMC's earnings from hoarding and advertisement fees come from multiple sources. The report stated that in 2024-25, ₹190 crore was collected in hoarding fees, up from ₹109.96 crore in 2023-24. Additionally, revenue from illuminated advertisement boards and hoardings on BMC land, auctioned through e-tenders, stood at ₹30 crore. 

Advertisement hoarding fees collected from sites owned by MMRDA and MSRDC brought in ₹1.65 crore in 2024-25, a significant jump from ₹56.79 lakh in 2022-23.

Revenue from renting BMC properties for advertising remained steady at ₹3.3 lakh in 2024-25, slightly lower than ₹3.32 lakh in the previous year, with a projected increase to ₹1.1 crore in 2025-26.

Revenue from glow and neon sign boards also saw an upward trend. BMC earned ₹42 crore from this category in 2024-25, with a proposed revenue of ₹77 crore for 2025-26 marking a sharp rise from ₹59.52 crore in 2023-24. 

Meanwhile, advertisement hoarding fees collected from registered persons amounted to ₹1.1 crore in 2024-25, a drop from ₹5.29 crore in 2023-24. 

BMC Budget 2025-26

Notably, the estimated budget for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the fiscal year 2025-26 is ₹74,427.41 crore. This marks a 14.19% increase compared to the ₹65,180.79 crore budget for 2024-25.
