As the calendar turns towards a new year, it feels natural to pause and reflect on the months behind us. For me, 2025 has been especially rich in lessons and genuine progress.
The year opened with looming questions around AI and the challenge of keeping pace with rapidly evolving audience expectations. That was soon followed by complex geopolitical shifts and the increase in demand for expert policy communications to help businesses navigating uncertainty – all whilst upholding the responsibility of shaping public narratives.
Looking back, several defining moments sharpened our focus and underscored our belief in reputation as capital that is resilient even in complex, uncertain times.
Taking AI from Conversation to Core Capability
This year, the industry finally moved past “whether” to use AI. The real challenge became “how” to use it creatively, effectively and responsibly. Conversations across events reaffirmed that while AI brings unparalleled speed, precision and personalization, it cannot replace the human instinct for culture, nuance and emotion.
We provided a powerful answer to this "how" through Burson’s proprietary AI-led innovation portfolio, WPP Open and integrated platforms and tools like Reputation Capital and Burson Decipher.
Reputation Capital stands out as a first-of-its-kind solution that harnesses the power of AI to help brands understand the relationship between proven drivers of reputation and business outcomes such as stock price, sales and purchase intent. Using advanced AI and vast data analysis, this predictive tool helps our clients build and protect their reputation in near real-time. Complementing this, Burson Decipher leverages AI to forecast message resonance and their potential for impact, ensuring narratives drive the desired engagement and deliver tangible business results.
These innovative tools underscore our belief that machine intelligence, paired with human ingenuity, can fundamentally reshape how brands build and nurture their value. As we enter 2026, we will continue with a collaborative model where AI is a partner and human judgment is at the helm.
Strengthening Our Voice for this New Era of Public Affairs
This year we also saw major geopolitical realignments, new and existing conflicts, and fluctuating economic and trade scenarios, all contributing to uncertainty in the business environment. My tenure leading PAFI offered me a front-row view into how policy conversations are evolving. It underpinned my conviction that when businesses and governments collaborate, progress is not only achievable, but also more inclusive and sustainable.
A key learning was the intrinsic power of community. PAFI’s strength lies not on an individual, but in the collective intent and shared vision of its members working towards common goals.
Supercharging Our Earned-First Creative
This year, a consistent stream of accolades brought an immense sense of pride – from being named among top Asian Agencies of the Year by PRovoke Media to securing multiple wins at prominent platforms such as Exchange4Media, and other reputed platforms. More importantly, it gave us the confidence to continue delivering creative work that not only stands out but stands for something. Ultimately, awards signal that the bar for excellence is rising and what elevates is an integrated philosophy where creativity consistently delivers tangible business value. This convergence of external recognition and internal clarity marked a defining moment for our earned-first creative thinking.
Elevating Sustainability and Social Impact
Beyond technological innovation, 2025 also saw us significantly deepen our commitment to purpose. We integrated Sustainability C Social Impact (SSI) into our core offerings, recognizing that sustainability demands measurable impact and real progress, not just good intentions. We are empowering Indian and global brands to align their business goals with authentic purpose, mobilizing stakeholders around their environmental and social commitments. From C-suite engagement and public-private sector advocacy to greenwashing risk advisory and in-depth ESG application analysis, our expanded capabilities ensure that purpose-driven strategies translate into tangible outcomes, fostering both reputational strength and real-world change.
Driving Growth Through Strategic Partnerships
Our credibility for handling complex, high-stakes mandates truly shone this year, notably with our appointment as the agency of record for the Amdavad, India, bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympics Games. This national mandate enables us to draw on our extensive experience with and deep understanding of the global sports landscape to shape a powerful narrative and deliver media impact in support of India’s Olympic aspirations.
Furthermore, we strengthened our position as leaders in financial communications with our strategic partnership with Mirae Asset Sharekhan, a leading Indian brokerage and financial services firm. Our objective is to build stronger brand awareness, articulate the brand's vision and strengthen its reputation as a credible provider of comprehensive financial services in India. This partnership exemplifies our growing prowess in guiding financial brands through complex market narratives and building investor confidence.
Looking Forward
Every defining moment of 2025 pointed to a basic tenet – reputation is not owned, it is earned. It is earned through transparent storytelling, thoughtful adoption of technology, unwavering respect for audiences and continuous investment in people.
As we step into 2026, our mission remains unchanged: to help brands and businesses redefine reputation as a competitive advantage so they can lead today and into the future. The next year will undoubtedly demand courage, creativity, accountability and an open and curious growth mindset. And I can say with confidence – we are ready.
