- Athreya previously led the Private Credit Investment team at Sundaram Alternates and has expertise in structured finance and alternative assets from his time at Clearwater Capital Partners.
- Harsha Viji, Executive Vice Chairman of Sundaram Finance, expressed confidence in Athreya's leadership, highlighting the firm's achievement of over Rs. 7,000 crores in assets under management.
- Athreya aims to expand the company's product offerings in response to growing investor demand, having already launched seven private credit funds with commitments of approximately Rs. 4,400 crores.
Sundaram Alternates Assets Ltd. (SA), the alternative investment arm of Sundaram Finance Group, has announced the appointment of Karthik Athreya as its Managing Director.
Athreya, who has over 26 years of experience in the financial sector, has played a key role in Sundaram Alternates’ growth over the past decade. He has been leading the Private Credit Investment team, driving innovation, strategic expansion, and portfolio performance. As a member of the company’s Board of Directors, he has also provided valuable insights that have helped shape the firm’s long-term direction.
Before joining Sundaram Alternates, Athreya headed the India business for Clearwater Capital Partners, a pan-Asian special situations fund. In that role, he managed investments worth over USD 1 billion across secured lending, restructurings, bond trading, and mid-market private equity, gaining deep expertise in structured finance and alternative assets.
Harsha Viji, Executive Vice Chairman of Sundaram Finance, expressed confidence in Athreya’s leadership, saying: “Karthik has been a driving force behind the growth and innovation of our investment platform. His deep understanding of our group’s values and his commitment to excellence make him the ideal choice to lead Sundaram Alternates. The company has already crossed Rs. 7,000 crores in assets under management, and I am confident we will continue to scale new heights under his guidance.”
