  • Anand Varadarajan has been appointed as Starbucks' new Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, effective January 19, following Deb Hall Lefevre's retirement in September.
  • He will report directly to CEO Brian Niccol and will be part of the Executive Leadership Team, overseeing the Starbucks Technology function.
  • Varadarajan joins Starbucks after nearly 20 years at Amazon, where he led technology and supply chain systems for the Worldwide Grocery Stores business.

After the retirement of Deb Hall Lefevre in September, Starbucks has named Anand Varadarajan as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He will take on the role from January 19 and will join the company’s Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to CEO Brian Niccol while heading the Starbucks Technology function.
 
Varadarajan comes to Starbucks from Amazon, where he spent close to two decades building technology solutions aimed at improving customer experience, speed and operational efficiency. Most recently, he led technology and supply chain systems for Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores business. Earlier in his career, he also worked in software engineering roles at Oracle and was associated with several startups.
 
In his new role at Starbucks, Varadarajan will be responsible for strengthening secure and dependable technology systems, improving operational performance and scaling customer-focused digital solutions. He will also focus on developing and supporting the teams that power Starbucks’ technology platforms.
 
Earlier in his career, Varadarajan has worked with organisations such as Motorola Inc., Openwave Inc., Viquity Inc. and Oracle Corp.
