TV Artists’ Strike in WB impacts viewership, Bangla GEC drops by 15%

Due to the strike, viewers migrated to Bangla Movie Channels, which increased the genre viewership by 37% compared to the previous week

The Bangla television industry has come under the lens once again with TV actors going on a strike because of non-payment of dues.

According to media reports, a notice from the Artist Forum wanted production houses to pay the dues of the actors within the 15th of the month. But after several notices, the dues were yet to get cleared.

The strike which began on August 18 continued till August 24 dropped Bangla GEC ratings by 15 per cent as filming and shooting were disrupted and fresh episodes could not be aired.

According to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, viewers migrated to Bangla Movie Channels, which increased the genre viewership by 37 percent compared to the previous week.

The growth in Bangla Movie genre was driven by females with 41 percent increase and male viewership grew by 34 percent. Meanwhile, Bangla News also witnessed a 3 percent growth in viewership.
