Broadcast regulator Trai will seek a review of the ex-parte stay by Madras high court on Centre’s notification indefinitely suspending implementation of conditional access system (CAS), with chairman Pradip Baijal saying that Trai had approached the court to be heard on the issue before the stay was awarded.
Trai would seek the appeal on the basis that it was yet to formulate detailed guidelines for CAS, implementation of which has kept in abeyance for the time being, said Mr Baijal adding any view taken on the subject should await the framing of rules.
“What the Madras HC has given is an ex-parte stay. We will present our case before the court. We will also seek a clarification on whether the stay is only meant for Chennai or is it applicable to the entire country,” he said.
