With already having sold up to 60 per cent of ad inventory so far for the Asia Cup 2018, Star India, the official broadcaster, is looking forward to the cricket tournament, starting September 15.

The broadcaster is pegged to easily earn around Rs 200 crore advertising revenue from television and approximately Rs 50 crore from digital during the upcoming tournament.

A senior media planner said, “So far, up to 60 percent inventory has already been sold. Viewer interest in this tournament will be particularly high when India is playing with Sri Lanka or Pakistan.”

“The response from brands for this tournament is still in the works as several deals are still in the process of being finalised. Having said that, 60 per cent inventory being already sold is good news. Star has quoted Rs 9-10 crore for the co-sponsorship, which just goes on to show how important the Asia Cup 2018 is for them,” said another media planner.

Ad rates for the matches will be close to Rs 5-6 lakh while India vs Pakistan matches will command a much higher price as the two nations don’t compete as much as cricket fans would like them to. The two nations could play three matches in the upcoming tournament.

A source close to the development informed exchange4media that Star India is still in talks with several brands and these deals will be finalised in the coming days. As the tournament date comes closer, Star India will be able to sell the remaining inventory at a much faster rate.

Star India has got Unimoni as the presenting sponsor, but it hasn’t disclosed any other names so far. The cricket tournament will see teams India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan battle it out to determine the champions of Asia.

The tournament is scheduled to be held in UAE from September 15- 28 and all the 13 one-day internationals will be broadcast live on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD, Star Sports Select, Star Sports Select HD, Star Sports 2, Star Sports 2 HD and Star Sports Tamil.
