Sony India reacts to media reports on ongoing investigation
The channel has stated that if wrongdoing is identified, the company will take "appropriate action"
There have been media reports alleging that Sony Corp’s entertainment unit investigated its Indian operations for possible legal violations, including bidding fraud and kickbacks, according to internal e-mails released by hackers, highlighting challenges the company has faced in the country.
“Sony Pictures is strongly committed to business ethics and the investigation of allegations of wrongdoing that might arise anywhere in the world. If wrongdoing is identified, we take appropriate action. This investigation is on-going.” said a Sony Pictures Entertainment spokesperson reacting to media reports.
According to a recent Bloomberg report, Sony enlisted Ernst & Young to look into its businesses in the country and uncover potential evidence of wrongdoing, according to the e-mails accessed by Bloomberg. The probes, which haven’t been reported on before, put a spotlight on business practices at one of Sony’s key markets. The company generates more revenue from TV programming in India, with an audience twice the size of the U.S. population, than in any other market, largely thanks to its rights to broadcast Indian Premier League cricket, the report stated.
