SC overturns Delhi HC judgement; allows Prasar Bharati to telecast World Cup matches

The Supreme Court of India has passed the judgement today in favour of Prasar Bharati allowing them to share the live feed of the World Cup matches with cable operators. Just yesterday exchange4media had reported that the apex court had reserved the verdict on Prasar Bharati’s plea against the Delhi High Court order barring Doordarshan from sharing live feeds.

Earlier the Supreme Court in its February 19 session had asked Prasar Bharati on the feasibility of starting a new channel to exclusively telecast the World Cup matches to which it was reported that Prasar Bharati said that it was unable to do so.

Star Sports, the official broadcaster for the ICC World Cup 2015, had argued in court that it had made a large investment for the procurement of the rights and that sharing of the feeds by Doordarshan to cable operators was resulting in large losses.
