The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) in November and December 2018 processed six TV channel licences that are in the non-news category, as per media reports.

MIB has also approved some applications for changing names.

Of the new channel licences, Star India got four and this includes Star Sports 1 Kannada, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Movies Kids, and Star Movies Kids HD.

The two sports channels were launched in December. While Star Sports 1 Telugu was launched on 7 December, Star Sports 1 Kannada saw the light of the day on 29 December.

Star Movies Kids will be India’s first children movie channel and the channel’s launch is set to mark the broadcaster’s entry in the kids genre.
