BARC India names News 7 and BFlix Movies offenders of viewership malpractice

While News 7 is a 24x7 Odia news channel, Bflix Movies is a free-to-air movie channel

Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India’s disciplinary committee has said News 7 owned by Summa Real Media and Indirect Media’s Bflix Movies are second-time offenders of viewership malpractice.

Summa Real Media group also runs a vernacular daily in Odisha - The Prameya. While News 7 is a 24x7 Odia news channel, Bflix Movies is a free-to-air movie channel launched on May 25, 2016.

Bflix Movies was promoted by Ashish Choudhary, Harish Kotak and Vishal Gurnani. The channel airs classic and contemporary movies of Bollywood as well as South Indian films dubbed in Hindi.

On December 4, BARC India filed an FIR at West Marredpally Police Station, Hyderabad, against the accused in Telangana. The accused were connected with two channels in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region. This is the first time that a chargesheet has been filed against the accused involved in TV ratings manipulation in the state of Telangana.
