Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has lauded veteran journalist N. Ram, calling him a “towering sentinel of Indian journalism” in a heartfelt tribute shared on the occasion of Ram’s birthday.

In his message, Stalin praised N. Ram’s unwavering dedication to truth, editorial integrity and his relentless pursuit of journalistic excellence.

“N. Ram has stood as a guardian of democracy through fearless and principled journalism,” Stalin noted, adding that his contributions have set a benchmark for media professionals across generations.

N. Ram is one of the most respected names in Indian journalism. His association with The Hindu began in 1977 and he rose through the ranks to become Editor-in-Chief and later Chairman of The Hindu Group. He came into national limelight for his investigative reporting on the Bofors scandal, which exposed high-level corruption and reshaped the media’s role in public accountability.

Under his leadership, The Hindu has been widely recognized for maintaining editorial independence and credibility, especially in an era marked by increasing media consolidation and commercial pressures.

In addition to numerous national and international awards, N. Ram was conferred the prestigious Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award by the Press Council of India in 2018 and the Asian Investigative Journalist of the Year Award in 1990.
