Sandeep Bamzai to write book on modern history of India
“This book is something that I have wanted to do for some time now but my hectic schedule with the India Today group over the last six years gave me no free time whatsoever,” said Bamzai
Recently we reported that Sandeep Bamzai stepped down from Focus News as Editor. Now Bamzai has been engaged by a publishing house to write a book on modern history.
The book will be on the background of India’s modern history in the run up to independence. This will be his fourth project an author. His last book was Bonfire of Kashmiriyat, which was a definitive account of Kashmir’s accession. He has also authored Guts and Glory: The Bombay Cricket Story.
Talking to exchange4media, he said, “After 33 years of hardcore news journalism with three pit stops in the past to author seminal books, I am taking a sabbatical to pursue research and academia by joining a top think tank as visiting fellow and writing a definitive account of a key development in India's modern history in the run up to independence.”
He added, “This book is something that I have wanted to do for some time now but my hectic schedule with the India Today group over the last six years gave me no free time whatsoever. This book is very close to my heart as it deals with builders of modern India like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel. The cast includes many other towering personalities but I would prefer not to reveal that at the moment. The task of completing this project is monumental and that is why I have taken a sabbatical from active journalism, the top think tank has understood the import of my work and kindly consented to allow me to work from their facility.”
Bamzai concluded by saying that he is excited at the new beginning cutting the umbilical cord with the recent past.
Bamzai has mostly worked as a business journalist and has worked in senior editorial positions in some of the biggest publishing houses in three different cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.
He was Business Editor with Hindustan Times, and before moving to New Delhi from Mumbai, he was Senior Editor with Business India, Editor of Dalal Street Journal, Assistant Editor of The Illustrated Weekly, Deputy Editor of Sunday Observer and Editor - Special Projects at The Times of India Group. He has also worked as Executive Editor with Plus Channel.
Bamzai had started his career with The Statesman, Kolkata. In 1986, he moved to Mumbai to join The Indian Express and has spent more than 15 years in Mumbai.
