Mail Today launches Chandigarh edition
The content strategy of the Chandigarh edition would be similar to that of the Delhi edition with complete focus on national news and no local news.
Mail Today, the daily English tabloid from the India Today Group, is launching its Chandigarh edition on January 5, 2012.
The Chandigarh edition, like the Delhi edition, is positioned as a premium newspaper targeted at young cosmopolitan readers. And Chandigarh fits the bill as it is an affluent city with essentially
English speaking population of young upwardly mobile readers.
According to sources in Mail Today, the content strategy of the Chandigarh edition would be similar to that of the Delhi edition with complete focus on national news and no local news from Chandigarh.
The Chandigarh edition will be distributed in the tri-city of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, besides Ludhiana and Amritsar in Punjab, Karnal in Haryana, and Shimla and Solan in Himachal Pradesh. Following Mail Today’s successful circulation model in Delhi, the new edition will also focus on the subscription route.
The launch of Mail Today’s Chandigarh edition was initially planned for the first week of December 2010. However, it had to be deferred following the resignations of its Editor Bharat Bhushan and COO Rahul Thappa. Thappa’s position is now taken over by Manoj Sharma, who was earlier Business Head of Mail Today. In fact, Sharma has just been further elevated to the position of Group Business Head.
According to sources, following the launch in Chandigarh, Mail Today would be working towards launching its Mumbai and Bangalore editions.
