Jury meet concludes for the 1st edition of Dainik Bhaskar INK Awards

An august jury comprising leading industry professionals met in Mumbai on Tuesday to pick the winners for the first ever DainikBhaskar INK awards, an initiative by the exchange4media group. The first edition of the Awards will recognize the best creative work and media projects in the realm of print advertising between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013. In its inaugural year, the Awards aim to reward creativity in newspaper advertising across 21 categories. There were a total of 497 entries received from across agencies, publications and clients like McCann, Ogilvy & Mather, HUL, Titan, Tata Housing, Godrej Properties, Lodestar UM, GroupM, Madison, Zee, Star, Viacom18, BCCL, DNA, Malayala Manorama, etc.

The distinguished Jury panel led by Jury Chairman, Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands India included Anand Chakravarthy, West Head, Maxus; Girish Shah, EVP Marketing & Sales Godrej Properties Ltd; Pradeep Dwivedi, Chief Corporate Sales & Marketing Officer, Dainik Bhaskar Group; Raj Nayak, CEO, Colors; Ravi Bharadwaj,Executive Director- Marketing, Dell; Sandeep Sharma, President, R K Swamy Media Group; Satyajit Sen, CEO, Zenith Optimedia.

The jury process saw a lot of discussions on the entries and the jury had a tough time deciding winners in certain categories. Heading the jury, Shashi Sinha said, “Despite a lot of progress happening in television and digital; Print is still a very powerful medium in our country and therefore anything which facilitates creativity in print is a good idea. We saw a lot of interesting work. I am very happy to see a lot of work coming in from the publications too.”

Commenting on the initiative, Raj Nayak said, “It is a great initiative for the print industry as it motivates people to think about print as a category in the first place. Alyque Padamsee had said years ago that if we have seen it before, it ain’t innovation. I think that innovation has really evolved in print in the last few years and there is scope for much more.”

Talking about the awards and the quality of entries, Pradeep Dwivedi said, “In a media mix, print becomes a very critical element of any successful campaign and hence it is very important the marketers look at not just the media mix contribution of print but also the creative dimension that goes with that media mix. I think there were fairly exciting entries and it took a lot of deliberation among the jury members to decide on the golds, silvers and the bronzes.”

The Awards ceremony will be held in Mumbai on May 15, 2014.
