The 24-page tabloid is being distributed for free in Mumbai & its suburbs and is expected to boost subscriptions of the group's monthly lifestyle magazine 'Muallim'

Blossom Media launches English tabloid for Muslims

Blossom Media, a Mumbai-based research, advisory and media firm on emerging Muslim consumer market, has launched an issue-based tabloid targetted at Muslim readers. The 24-page tabloid is being distributed for free in Mumbai and its suburbs. The initial print run has been kept at 15,000.

It may be recalled that Blossom Media recently entered the publishing business with a monthly magazine on Muslim lifestyle, titled ‘Muallim’.

Speaking to exchange4media, Ubaidur-Rahman Khan, Editor-in-Chief, Muallim said, “There are many positive issues involving and revolving around the Muslim community, which are in need of detail coverage, hence a tabloid has the scope and need amongst our target market.”

He further said, “We are publishing it under the name ‘Muallim’, but have given a subtitle to the tabloid based on the content. For instance, the first issue was on Muslim women, hence, we gave the subtitle ‘Muslima’, the second issue carried profiles of Muslims who are doing well in the Administration and Government sectors, professionals and so on. So, we gave the subtitle of ‘Achievers’ to that issue. Recently, we highlighted the role of Muslims and their contribution in India’s independence struggle and named the issue ‘Azad Hind’.”

Elaborating more on the latest offering, Ziaulla Firdos Nomani, Director – Marketing, Blossom Media said, “Encouraged by the tremendous response to the magazine ‘Muallim’, there were demands to cover topics and issues that are never touched upon. Since the content of the magazine concerns the lifestyle of Muslims, covering social and other aspects would have diluted and confused our readerships, hence a different tabloid was a feasible idea to go ahead with.”

Speaking on the distribution aspect, Nomani said, “We have identified 45 Muslim areas in and around Mumbai, such as Nariman Point, Colaba, Fort, etc. where businessmen and corporate Muslims visit for Friday prayers. The other areas include Agripada, Mahim, Bandra, Mumbai Central, Andheri, Goregaon, Meera Road, and so on, which have sizeable Muslim residential population.”
