The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) will hold its 69th annual general meeting on September 14 to duly ratify the audited statement of accounts for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2017. It is important to add that the audited statement shall be accompanied by the report of the auditors and directors. Besides that, the AGM will be appointing members to the council of management which sits at the top of ABC.
The council of management comprises representatives from the side of advertisers, advertising agencies and publishers, among others. As many as seven members of the council of management are slated to retire under Article 26 of ABC’s Articles of Association. However, these members are eligible for re-election under Article 28. The retiring members include HT Media Executive Director Benoy Roychowdhury, IPG Mediabrands CEO Shashi Sinha, Lokmat Media Managing Director Devendra Darda and ABP Pvt. Limited Sales Director Chandan Majumdar.
“Until otherwise determined by the association in (the) general meeting, the number of members of the council of management shall be not less than eight and not more than sixteen,” notes the ABC’s governing manual. An internal communiqué regarding the meeting was sent to ABC members by Secretary General HB Masani on July 21. “A member entitled to attend and vote is entitled to appoint a proxy to attend and vote instead of himself/herself on a poll only,” mentioned the letter sent by ABC. However, in such a scenario, the council members are required to nominate proxies to the ABC at least 48 hours prior to the commencement of the AGM.
Besides the above-mentioned subjects, the AGM will lend considerable time to make up its mind in relation to the reappointment of the retiring auditors of the bureau until the 70th annual general meeting to be held in 2018. Being one of the foremost industry bodies for the print industry, the ABC’s council of management also consists of other top notch media executives such as BCCL CEO Raj Jain, Dainik Jagran Director Shailesh Gupta and GroupM South Asia CEO CVL Srinivas.
