This year, IDMA received over 800 entries which were carefully scrutinised by a 42-member online jury who shortlisted around 200-plus entries that were further divided into 26 sub-categories and presented before the final jury. The ace media award kick-started with the selection of the IDMA Person of the Year. The esteemed jury members decided on the most prestigious award with consensus, followed by a voting system.

Sharing his views on the process, Jury Chair Suresh Narayanan said, “It's a privilege to be the Jury for IDMA 2019. It was a high power jury with top 20 industry leaders from across industries like banking, manufacturing and digital. We had 233 entries in all, divided into 5 major categories and 26 sub-categories. It was an exciting experience to see the quality of work. Some of the selected works were truly outstanding and world-class while some of them could have been better in terms of presenting and articulating the objectives of the campaigns.”
Talking about the challenges as a Jury Head, Narayanan said: “The challenge as a jury head was to work with a panel consisting of members with considerable experience, expertise and achievement. Therefore, the role was primarily to help guide a discussion but not in any manner infringe the discussion of the panel or try to come to conclusions."
Elaborating on the criteria for selection, Narayanan said: "Equal weightage was given for the four criteria - Strategy, Innovation, Execution and Result. It was a great experience talking to them about digital marketing and digital excellence that is being achieved in our country."
Further talking about IDMA as a platform, Narayanan said, “IDMA is a platform to showcase digital excellence in digital, analytics and multimedia, as we evolve. It brings together agencies and companies who excel in digital and it becomes a clearing House in terms of ideas for digital and effective execution and measurement of the digital beat. It also serves as an inspiration for young creative people, marketers or as thought leaders as they get inspired from the outstanding work that is being awarded.”
M K Anand, CEO and MD, Times Network, an esteemed jury member, said: “The entries were pretty good. The panel was very involved since the subject is quite varied and vast because digital today is a generic term for various things that are happening today. There is a good amount of discussion which is happening with reference to the categories, objectives as well as nuances of different media. So for me, it has been quite interesting, engaging and little bit of a learning, rather just being only a judging activity."
"The criteria was that a campaign meets an objective and what is the context in which the objective has been set. So the judgement took place by looking a campaign not specifically but looking at it holistically,” Anand added.
Suggesting on the entries, Anand said it needs to have more of two-minute audio visual presentations, which would give a clear message of the objective in the beginning and the result in the end. “It can also be in a narrative and not an audio visual. Also, the marketing persons from the organisations could come forward to give an audio visual presentation.”
The 19-member jury went through the sub categories to pick the best. While most of the choices witnessed smooth sail-through, a few short-listed entries left the jury members stand divided.
The categories adjudged by the esteem jury were - Web, Mobile and Tablets, Social Media, Search and PPC Campaigns, alongside Special awards for Best Integrated Media Campaign - Product/ Services, Best Integrated Media Campaign - Corporate, Best Integrated Media Campaign - Social Cause, to name a few.
The awards will be given out to the digital industry on June 28. Also on the same day is the third edition of Techmanch, a platform that brings together the advertising, marketing and media fraternity of the country to discuss Digital. With a slew of top ranking global influencers, panels of luminaries and knowledge workshops by experts, Techmanch provides an unmatched perspective into the world of digital marketing.
Formulated by the exchange4media group, IDMA was initiated in 2010 with the objective to recognize, celebrate and encourage the work being done in the digital marketing space - internet, mobile, gaming, social media and the blogosphere.
