Impact Person of the Year 2019

Byju Raveendran, Founder and CEO of Byju’s, has won the IMPACT Person of the Year, 2019 Award, instituted by the exchange4media Group to recognize excellence in the Advertising, Media and Marketing domain. He wins the award for revolutionising the online learning ecosystem, changing the way India learns by pioneering ‘personalized learning’, building a high value impactful business enterprise as well as a powerful brand. Under Raveendran’s leadership, the start-up company saw a meteoric rise and is today valued at $8 billion.

To him goes the credit for identifying a gap need, and moving to trace the learning fingerprint and proficiency of each and every student to create a personalized learning experience for them through the BYJU’s app. Not only does he help students make the most out of their learning journey, but makes them ‘fall in love with learning’, which is his mission.

On accepting the award, Raveendran said: "This award completely belongs to the agency we have been working with from 2015 and Atit (Atit Mehta, Marketing Head, BYJU's) who supports us and also others in the team to stay true our whole focus, which was always about making students fall in love with learning. This was considered as a risky strategy. We were told that when everyone is talking about creating toppers, talking about love for learning is a risky strategy but we are staying true to it."

He further said: "If you look at all our commercials, all the messaging has been based on that — creating an environment and making sure that students love learning and everything else will follow. I've just created an ecosystem where interpreters can thrive just by giving them the platform. My name is there because it has got stuck as initially when I used to take classes students started calling it as BYJU'S classes, and that's how the brand name happened. This award is for everyone involved in the work. We continue to work with a set of people, the message is very clear and consistent."
