IRS 2011 Q2: Magazines on the decline in Chhattisgarh; mixed bag for dailies
The Indian Readership Survey 2011 Q2 results have not brought any cheer for some of the topline dailies in Chhattisgarh. Besides, nearly all top ten periodicals have also faced readers’ apathy as they reported loss of a average issue readership of almost a lakh over last year.
Recent Indian Readership results have come up with negative trends for topline dailies in Chhattisgarh. Besides, almost all top ten periodicals have also faced readers’ apathy reporting loss of almost a lakh in average issue readership (AIR).
With an AIR of 9.92 lakh, Dainik Bhaskar is the most read newspaper of the state. However, the daily has seen decline of 3 per cent in readership over last year losing an AIR of 29,000. Among top three dailies in the state, Hari Bhoomi is the only daily that has been able to attract readers over last year, adding an AIR of 69,000, which takes its current AIR to 9.20 lakh. Nava Bharat (Mah/Chh) has witnessed decline in readership in last quarter as well as over Q2 2010. The current AIR of the daily perched at 7.48 lakh.
Meanwhile, both, Nai Dunia and Dainik Jagran reported positive growth in readership in the state as their AIR has grown over last year. With growth of a per cent, Nai Dunia has registered an AIR of 3.58 lakh, while with a massive growth of 34 per cent over last year, Dainik Jagran’s current AIR reached at 51,000.
Meanwhile, The Times of India with annual growth in readership has recorded an AIR of 28,000. English business daily The Economic Times has an AIR of 9000 – decline of 31 per cent over last year. Adding 2,000 readers in last quarter, NavDunia has an AIR of 8,000. English daily The Hindu registered an AIR of 4000, decline over last year.
Magazines have seen continuous decline in AIR in Chhattisgarh. With an AIR of 57,000, Pratiyogita Darpan is the most read magazine in the state. Losing AIR of alomost 18000, Meri Saheli got an AIR of 55000. India Today (Hindi), Aha Zindagi and Grih Shobha have also been able to make it in the list of top five magazines in the state, however witnessed decline in AIR over corresponding period last year.
