NDTV marks its 25 years in the news broadcasting industry by acknowledging 25 Greatest Global Indian Living Legends for their outstanding contribution in association with Tata Consultancy Services. For the first time ever, the nation witnessed the coming together of 25 Indian Living Legends on the centre stage. The legends were acknowledged and felicitated by President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at an awards ceremony held by NDTV at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Presenting the awards, Mukherjee said, “It’s indeed a pleasure for me to be amidst you this evening and to be associated with recognising these 25 great Indians. While going through their introduction and some of their comments, I found out one striking commonality in all of them – that each and every one of them believes in hard work, honesty, commitment to the job, idea to which they furnish. Therefore, what is needed today, and what we can draw lessons from the outstanding performance of these 25 great Indians, is that we cannot have a shortcut or a bypass to achieve success, to reach the top, to be the models for others.”
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Prannoy Roy, Executive Co-chairperson, NDTV said, “When we started the first private news on Indian television, we were a bundle of nerves, you gave us strength at that time. When we produced India’s first 24-hour news channel 15 years ago, you trusted us then too and we value that trust till today. Tabloidisation is a worry, but I feel there is a back lash now. We hope and pray that sponsors and advertisers will give greater weightage to content and avoid promoting tabloidisation.”
Speaking further, he said, “Looking ahead at the next five years, we believe that soft power will become as important as hardware in global conflict. The time has come to launch India’s version of CNN or BBC or Al Jazeera. NDTV as a truly global channel in our sights, we need your faith, your support and trust in this venture too.”
Partnering NDTV and Tata Consultancy Services in the 25 years celebrations are UFO Media and Hotel Taj Palace as associate sponsor and hospitality partners, respectively.
Launched in November 1988, NDTV’s first show, ‘The World This Week’, opened the country’s eyes to the world in a way it had never seen before.
