BBC World News revamps operations

BBC World News is unveiling a new look next week when it re-launches from its new studios in central London. The channel will feature a refreshed line-up of programmes and presenters, and will be investing heavily in additional newsgathering capacity around the world.

From12:00 GMT on Monday, January 14, 2013, the channel will broadcast from its new state-of-the-art High Definition studios in its new London headquarters, the redeveloped Broadcasting House. BBC World News will be the first English language channel to go live from the new building.

Commenting on this initiative, Jim Egan, COO, BBC Global News said, “This re-launch marks the biggest change for BBC World News in at least a decade and is part of a sustained commitment by the BBC to build on our long history of delivering high quality international news by enhancing our TV and digital offers to viewers, advertisers and distribution partners. We aspire to be recognised as the world’s best international news provider and will be making a series of investments this year to support that ambition.”

He further said, “The objective is for BBC World News to showcase two distinctive strengths of the channel. First, we will be broadcasting from the redeveloped home of the BBC in London, New Broadcasting House, which brings together all of the BBC’s journalists in 27 languages in the world’s most diverse news centre of excellence – we call this ‘the world’s newsroom’. Second, this journalistic excellence will be showcased in the most technologically advanced news studios in existence with unrivalled quality, presentation and production flexibility.”

Egan is confident that the quality and presentation will be noticed by the viewers and in the months ahead viewers will also witness new presenters, correspondents and a range of new initiatives on TV and online.
