Foreword

No, I am not going to write about the Abbys and how they have been tainted thanks to the leaks. There are three more days ahead to talk about them, even though the fact that they have leaked for three consecutive years indicates a problem that needs some urgent attention. But it’s Day 1 of Goafest and the day when the creme de la creme of Indian ad and medialand assemble to attend the Industry Leadership Conclave.

The Sam Balsara-orchestrated Conclave has some interesting people. The line-up is impressive and one hopes that there are crowds thronging the venue to witness proceedings. One hopes there are enough indicators on the roadmap to growth in the Conclave. While the Pitch-Madison report sees a rise in business this year and the market is indeed looking better than what it was, we’re still a long way off from the Rs 50,000 crore that Goafest 2007 had hoped the trade would achieve in three to five years. The recession was indeed a downer, but can we hope that it will get there in the next five?

If you are a first-timer and expected plane-loads of people descending at Cavelossim today, worry not. They’ll be there tomorrow. Resorts and hotels around the venue are packed to capacity. This is the third year we’re doing the special newsletters. The news is of course covered on exchange4media.com and over the next two weeks in impact. This year, you can also track the latest at Goafest via twitter. Follow us at @e4mtweets and you will get all that needs to be known.

There’s an important Royal Challengers Bangalore versus Deccan Chargers encounter this evening at 8. Given the way the IPL Season 3 points table stands, it’s a crucial match. But nothing to beat the fun ‘n frolic after the Conclave. As that girl in the much-aired Spinz Deo ad wails: ‘I want to get to the beach of the Goa now’. It’s hot and sweaty, but it’s Goa.

Enjoy the fest!
