Rukmini Shrinivasan is now Editor – Data & Innovation at HuffPost India
Rukmini Shrinivasan has joined the digital only platform as Editor for Data & Innovation at HuffPost India.
With the news media industry betting big on digital journalism powered by data, HuffPost India has made yet another significant appointment. Rukmini Shrinivasan has joined the digital-only platform as Editor – Data & Innovation. Shrinivasan’s role will provide her with an opportunity to exhibit innovation in storytelling through data that would seek to better inform users on various issues and increase interactivity.
Shrinivasan is not new to integrating news and data since she previously served as National Data Editor of The Hindu. She was also associated with Times of India. However, the digital shift seems to have influenced Shrinivasan as well who has now decided to work for a website in the form of HuffPost instead of a legacy print news organisation.
In the past few years, data journalism has slowly but surely taken roots in the Indian news ecosystem. This fact is corroborated with the emergence of data-driven websites like Factly, FactChecker.in and IndiaSpend. The larger motive behind all such initiatives is to produce well-researched journalism that challenges untruths through data available in public domain.
As far as the mainstream media is concerned, HT Media has particularly shown keenness in dabbling with data. In September when Mint was repackaged as a business broadsheet, Sukumar Ranganathan had told exchange4media that their newsroom was the first in the country to delve into data journalism.
The News Apps team at Hindustan Team has often been praised publicly by Bobby Ghosh because of the creativity they have shown in dealing with data and new age media tools. What remains to be seen is how Shrinivasan will help HuffPost scale-up its data operations and emerge as a frontrunner in the data journalism space. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
