Must-have mobile apps for IPL aficionados

The seventh season of Indian Premier League has just started. While  the matches will be widely viewed on TV or streamed online, there may be instances when mobile apps that give latest updates and real-time scores will come extremely handy.

The following is a compilation of useful mobile apps on the iOS platform for IPL this season:

Yahoo Cricket: The app has been highly appreciated by reviewers. Upon opening, the app straightaway shows the current match scores. After clicking on the score, all the details of the match can be viewed, from summary to full scorecard and commentary. The app packs in a variety of additional information like list of recent and upcoming matches, points table for IPL 2014, news, photos and team information.

ESPN Cricinfo: The app gives real-time scores, news, videos, blogs and photos. Up until last year, the app showed ball-by-ball updates. This year, Delhi High Court has restrained this functionality. It informs the user right in the start that their coverage of the match will be a little delayed due to the court order. Along with a solid user interface, the app provides additional information on the matches as well as the series, such as  news, videos, special features, etc.

Cricbuzz: The main screen shows the current match scores. Upon swiping to the left one can see all related news and a right swipe displays photos. There are other features like match schedules, recent results, archives and latest news apart from player stats, points table, records and more.

IPL7 Live Score: The app offers ball by ball commentary which is interesting and has similar features like team information, scorecard, match schedules, etc.

IPL: The official app from BCCI for IPL is an uncluttered app without any ads. One can check out live scores for current matches, view scorecard, team information, match schedules, real-time updates, etc. It also integrates social media into the app wherein users can see what is being tweeted about matches or IPL. One can switch notifications on or off and participate in the ‘Pulse Poll’ which has simple yes or no questions.
