Dekkho ceases operations; co-founder Tanay Desai joins Times Internet

Dekkho, a content aggregator platform, reportedly closed down two months back but the app is still running

Dekkho, a content aggregator platform, ceased operations two months back according to industry sources. Calls and messages to its co-founder Tanay Desai went unanswered. In fact his Linkedin profile mentions that he has joined Times Internet as Head- Revenue Strategy this month. The reasons are still unclear as to why it shut shop. However, the app is still running.

A Google search of Dekkho indicated that it’s permanently closed. The video streaming platform so far has 100,000 downloads on Google Play Store and wasn’t available on Apple store. It's last post on Facebook dated back to August 2017. While on Twitter it sent out its last tweet on November 30 after more than a month gap. It was active till October.

On Facebook and Twitter it has 307k likes and 5,135 followers respectively.
Run by Baadl Technologies Pvt Ltd, it has raised $1.2 million (Rs 8.1 crore) from seven angel investors in its seed round of investment in December 2016. The names of these investors weren’t revealed back then. However, some industry sources indicated that the possible reason for portal's sudden shut down was financial crunch.

With 200 channels on board it was aiming to reach five monthly million active users within this year. Last year it even announced its plan to establish itself as the destination for talent discovery in the country and showcase premium content from non-production house talent.

This streaming platform started in March 2016 offered curated content sourced from leading content providers from India and abroad. Its founders Tanay Desai and Vinay Pillai are former Booz Allen Hamilton consultant. The start up claimed its service consumed less internet bandwidth and offered an offline viewing facility and exclusive access to new content for free.
