FCC elects Dr SH Waiel Awwad as new President

The Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) has elected its team members for the 2025-27 tenure.
“As my tenure as President comes to a close, I am pleased to announce the successful and transparent completion of our internal elections, held on 24-05-2025. This democratic process once again reflects the maturity, integrity, and unity of our journalistic community. The election was conducted in a spirit of openness, accountability, and professionalism, thanks to the efforts of the independent Election Officer Mr Amit Sharma, and the active participation of our valued members. I am proud to have overseen a process where every voice was heard, and every vote respected,” said outgoing president S Venkat Narayan.
Dr SH Waiel Awwad, a Syrian-born journalist, was elected as President of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia (FCC) for 2025-27 at the elections held here on Saturday. Prakash Nanda was elected as Secretary, and PM Narayanan as Treasurer. A nine-member Governing Council was also elected.
Dr Awwad is a geopolitical analyst with over 40 years of experience. He is known for his work on South Asia and Arab world affairs. Prakash Nanda is a senior journalist, editor and political analyst with over 35 years of experience in journalism and academia. He has authored many books on strategic affairs. PM Narayanan is a television journalist with over 25 years of experience, covering stories from South Asia for German TV.
The following were elected as Governing Council Members: Amitabh Srivastava (AIB), Anoop Saxena (German Radio), CK Nayak (Jan Astha Abroad, Nepal), Devina Gupta (BBC), Eshani Mathur (Bloomberg), Krishnan P Nayar (Emirates News Agency, UAE), Mayank Bhardwaj (Reuters), Ruslan Imaev (Russia Today), and Siddharth Srivastava (Channel News Asia, Singapore).
