ASCI upholds complaints against 121 out of 145 ads in Sept 2013. Education, Health & Personal Care categories continue to lead with the highest number of complaints
The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of the Advertising Standard Council of India (ASCI) upheld complaints against 121 ads out of 145 advertisements in September 2013. Education, Health & Personal Care categories continue to lead with the highest number of complaints.
The CCC found the following claims in health and personal care ads of 25 advertisers, released in the press to be either misleading, false or not adequately/ scientifically substantiated, and hence, violating ASCI’s Code. Some of the health care products or services ads also contravened provisions of the Drug & Magic Remedies Act.
Some of the complaints that were upheld in the health and personal care category ads included HUL’s Ponds Age Miracle, Colgate-Palmolive India’s Colgate Strong, and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare’s Junior Horlicks, among others.
The CCC found claims in print ads by 88 different advertisers which were not substantiated, thus violating the ASCI Guidelines for Advertising of Educational Institutions and hence the complaints against the ads were upheld.
