Leo Burnett to stay away from Goafest this year

Whilst the Awards Governing Council of Goafest has extended the dates for submission of entries for the 2014 edition of Goafest Abbys, there has been immense speculation on the agencies who will be participating, keeping in the mind the sabbatical that took place post the announcement of awards last year, which included accusations of plagiarism on awarded work, scam ads, the appointment of a super jury resulting in several unhappy adlanders and agencies.

There has been much talk of whether or not Leo Burnett will participate in the Abbys this year. Saurabh Varma, CEO, Leo Burnett India put an end to all speculations when he confirmed to exchange4media that the agency will not participate in the Abbys this year.

“This year, Leo Burnett India offices will not be participating in Goafest. It is not a strategic priority for us currently,” Varma.

Leo Burnett now joins the ranks of Lowe Lintas (the agency has skipped Goafest for many years now) and Ogilvy (for the first time in the history of the Abbys, Ogilvy was conspicuous with its absence last year).

Mindful of last year’s events, the Goafest Committee has made changes in the judging process this year, there will now be a window of clear 10 days before the final judging round. During this window, shortlisted entries will be available for the entire industry to review.

Scheduled to be held on May 29-31, Goafest will be hosted at The Grand Hyatt, this year. Two new categories – Promo-Activation and PR – have been included, along with Broadcaster and Publisher Abbys, this year.
