Airtel, one of the leading telecom players in India, has retained its media duties with GroupM. The retention came in without Airtel calling for a pitch. This is GroupM’s second term with the telecom leader after it won the account during a multi-agency pitch, in February 2015. As per industry sources, the account size is estimated to be around Rs 400 to 450 crore and the media duties include TV, print, radio and digital.

When contacted for comments, Mausumi Kar, Managing Partner, GroupM, Team Airtel, said, “Winning the Airtel business three years ago was exciting for us; retaining it is rewarding and humbling. This is a testament to the partnership we have forged with Airtel, helping them stand tall in a challenging category. We will continue to drive excellence and value for Airtel by continuing to bring the tested, the new and the different from GroupM.”
Despite repeated mails and calls we could not get in touch with Airtel for a reaction.

Prior to Group M, the account was managed by Madison Media for nearly a decade. In fact, in 2012, Madison Media had not just retained media duties of Airtel but also added outdoor and digital duties to its existing mandate. Creative duties of the account is with Taproot Dentsu India.
