Though the holiday season is upon us, the industry kept us on our toes with all the key people movements and other happenings. The advertising industry is still reeling from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s ban on condom ads during the day time. As a reaction to this, Rajasthan High Court has issued notice to the Central Government on a petition which challenged the advisory issued by the MIB. Exchange4media spoke to The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) chief Shweta Purandare about the same who, while upholding MIB’s stand, said that this move was necessary because these ads were violating the code of self-regulation and were found objectionable by viewers on the basis of inappropriate content.
We also threw a spotlight on the broadcast industry this week and reviewed the year gone for the same. In other news, the 13th edition of the Goafest, curated by the AAAI and The Advertising Club, is set to be held from April 5 to April 7, 2018 in Goa. Ravish Kumar, Shashi Tharoor And 25 Others won the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence In Journalism Award. Starcom winning Kraft Heinz Rs 300 Cr media account was also one of the major happenings in the industry.
In people movements, Dr. Uday Nirgudkar of Zee 2 Taas joined Network18 as the Group Editor Regional (West) for the organisation's Marathi news channel News18 Lokmat and Zee Regional Channels Head, Sharada Sunder Quit. Lastly, NDTV slashed 25 per cent of its workforce.
